The Edmonton Shooting Centre was approved by Edmonton City Councillors this Monday afternoon.

Specifically up for debate was Bylaw 17293 which intended to amend the zoning of three lots in its current location, an industrial warehouse in the Hawin Park Estate Industrial area in northwest Edmonton, from “(IH) Heavy Industrial zone to (DC2) Site Specific Development Control Provision, for the purpose of adding the opportunity to operate an indoor participant recreation use limited to rifle and pistol ranges with associated accessory uses in an industrial building”.

The facility will be the largest indoor shooting facility in western Canada with 38,000 square feet of combined space and will feature eight 100 metre ranges with electronic targetry (making it the only 100 metre indoor public range in Canada), twenty-four 25 metre lanes with Action Target System targets controlled by the individual shooter on their lane or can be controlled centrally for competitions and/or training as a group.

It will also house three 25-person classrooms, a members-only lounge for Regular and Corporate members and their guests, and a retail space of a whopping 8,000 square feet where you can buy anything from guns and accessories, shooting supplies, and clothing. The Edmonton Shooting Centre also intends to offer a wide range of courses, such as the CFSC/CRFSC, basic to advanced pistol and carbine courses, long range rifle courses, and Black Badge and ATC courses.

The Regular Membership is plentiful with free access to the ranges during regular hours of operation, use of the Members Only Lounge, special discounts on products and services, complimentary ear and eye protection, and access to day use lockers. Also available are discounted walk-in rate for guests, and even free storage on site for up to two firearms and more. However, it does come with a hefty fee of $600 a year. Walk-in day rates are available for non-members at $40/adult ($20/youths under 16) for the 25 metre range and $50 for all walk-ins on the 100m range.

Construction will begin once the sale of the building is finalized and is expected to open for March 2016 . For more information, check out their website at http://www.edmontonshootingcentre.ca/
