Black. Beautiful. Savage Arms teases the MSR – a side-charging AR-15 that looks so ridiculously good, gives January 2017 release. Check it out!
Savage released a teaser on Thursday that is so short and so sweet that, if you were lucky and didn’t miss anything by blinking, it leaves you wanting more. And more. And more.
Featured is the manufacturer’s first production offering of an AR-15 rifle – the MSR – but this one is a little different…
The trailer opens with a thumping, adrenaline-pumping beat and shows off what looks to be a very nice pistol grip. It then immediately goes to showcase its most unique aspect compared to most AR-15 rifles – the slick, beautiful, side-charging upper receiver and folding charging handle.
One might notice that Westfield is stamped on the receiver, meaning it is not made in Canada like a number of other Savage rifles, but it’s something I’m willing to forgive.
After that it, as seductively as possible, reveals its M-LOK-style, free-floated, full-length flattop handguard before it gives a perfect view of the custom Savage ejection port cover.
Lastly, it delivers a succinct, straight-to-the-point message: “Better is coming“.
The introduction of the MSR brings Savage into the group of traditional firearms manufacturers such as Ruger, Remington, Mossberg, and Springfield who have produced modern sporting rifles, and comes on the heels of Springfield’s latest offering in the SAINT series that came out a few months ago.
The rifle is expected to be released in January 2017 and will more than likely make an appearance at SHOT Show 2017 in Las Vegas’ Sands Expo Center starting January 17. Unfortunately, because it’s a US-made rifle, there is no word when it will clear the RCMP’s firearms lab and hit the Canadian market – but we’ll be waiting for it. Oh, we will be waiting.
